TB-500 corresponds to the active actin-binding region of thymosin beta-4, a protein abundant in mammalian cells and wound fluid. Its primary studied mechanism is sequestration of monomeric G-actin, regulating the pool available for polymerization during cell migration. Research on the parent molecule additionally reports VEGF induction and reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine expression in tissue-repair models.
