Description
SS-31 (elamipretide) is an aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide that selectively concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane, where its studied mechanism centers on reversible binding to cardiolipin. This interaction is reported to stabilize cristae architecture, improve electron transport chain efficiency, and reduce mitochondrial reactive oxygen species production without acting as a classical antioxidant.
