Description
Kisspeptin refers to a family of endogenous peptides (encoded by the KISS1 gene) that act as the principal upstream activator of GnRH neurons via the KISS1R (GPR54) receptor. Research has established kisspeptin signaling as a required gatekeeper of pulsatile GnRH release, positioning it upstream of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis and its downstream LH/FSH secretion. Studies have used kisspeptin as a research probe for reproductive-axis signaling, puberty-onset models, and gonadotropin secretion pharmacology.
